What is #4Billion4US?
#4Billion4Us is a student-led campaign. This is a rallying cry, demanding $4 billion in Big Oil subsidies be allocated instead to making higher education more affordable for all. In 2014, 70% of college graduates left school with nearly $30,000 in student loan debt. Shifting $4 billion in subsidies from Big Oil to Student Aid would provide 1 million students with $4,000 in grant funding, cutting the average student debt in half.
Who is involved with #4Billion4US?
Students, activists, politicians, environmental groups, celebrities, and most importantly- VOTERS across the country are asking Congress to commit to shifting $4 billion from Big Oil to Big Ideas!
Where is the $4Billion?
Big Oil companies obtain billions in tax deductions to offset costs of exploration and production. $4 billion is a conservative number, with additional costs to the public: with infrastructure spending, military support, cost of climate change and the impact on public health estimated in the hundreds of billions.
